India earthquake ....Reason with current status

     Magnitude 5.4 earthquake jolts Kashmir, tremors felt in Delhi-NCR, north India   India is a seismically active region due to its location at the boundary of the Indian tectonic plate and the Eurasian tectonic plate. The Indian plate is converging with the Eurasian plate at a rate of about 5-6 centimeters per year. This collision has resulted in the formation of the Himalayan mountain range, which is still actively growing. The majority of earthquakes in India occur along the plate boundary in the Himalayan region, particularly in the northern states of Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Northeast India. These earthquakes are primarily caused by the release of accumulated strain as the two tectonic plates continue to collide. The movement along the fault lines in the region leads to frequent earthquakes, some of which can be quite severe.
